Addu City, Maldives – A total of 53 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Addu City today – the highest number of cases recorded in the city til date.
According to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), all 53 cases are among the 128 expatriates who arrived from Cochin to the city, to work at the area being developed as Addu Police Academy. All 128 individuals were tested upon the completion of a mandatory 14 day quarantine period.
While all patients are asymptomatic, with this new development, all 128 individuals are to remain at the Dhoogas facility for an additional 14 days.
With this, the total number of cases recorded in Addu City has gone up to 67, with 14 patients having have recovered. Only the 53 cases from today remain as active cases in the city. So far, all cases recorded from the city have been from home quarantine.
So far, no records suggest that there is a local or community transmission with in the city, as the 272 samples from random surveillance in the City tested negative.
