Almost 9,000 Bangladeshis returned home from Maldives

Male’, Maldives – Til date, almost 9,000 Bangladeshis have been repatriated back to their home countries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Maldivian Immigration, so far, a total have 8,909 Bangladeshis have flown back home. Among those who traveled back to their home country today are some which were living in the Maldives without the necessary documents, and others who simply wished to go back to Bangladesh.

Economic Minister Ismail Fayyaz has recently said that the aim of the government is to have 20,000 undocumented immigrants fly back to their countries by the end of this year.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the second most number of infections In Maldives were recorded among Bangladeshi nationals.
