Kadhdhoo, Maldives — 25 Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) officers in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll have confirmed to be positive for the Covid-19 virus.
The officers who tested positive for the virus went to Kadhdhoo for training purposes and therefore had spent their quarantine period in the woods of Kadhdhoo as well. After the 14 day quarantine period was completed and the officers were tested for the virus, 25 officers were confirmed to be positive for it while some of the results are still pending.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA), with the help of MNDF have been working jointly to take precautionary measures against Covid-19 following the recent outbreak in Kadhdhoo. As a large group of officers in training at Girifushi Training Base tested positive for the virus, the trainings conducted at the base has been temporarily halted in order to minimize the spread of Covid-19.
Although the confirmed cases in Maldives have tipped off lately recording two-digit numbers, the confirmed cases have been increasing in the atolls of Maldives rather than in Malé, the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak in Maldives. However, majority of the positive cases in the atolls are of home quarantined individuals who had either traveled from the capital city or another country.
