28 bills including defamation bill to be sent to parliament

Male’, Maldives – Government of Maldives has finalized to send in 28 bills to the parliament on the third session of parliament for this year.

Attorney Generals office said that this includes a bill for compensation for damages due to defamation, housing bill, family bill, mental health bill and foreign investment bill as well.

In addition to these the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Authority bill would also be sent to the parliament as it has been decided to merge Media Council and Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives.

So far 21 bills sent to the parliament by the government have been passed during the last parliament session.

The bills to be sent to the parliament are; amendment to the taxation bill, payment systems and payment services bill, amendment to Courts Act bill, amendment to Judges Act bill, amendment to Human Trafficking Act, evidence bill, Maldives Media and Broadcasting Authority bill, Food bill, national registration bill, public transport bill, compensation for damages due to defamation bill, protection of living animals bill, endangered animals sales bill, publication bill, foreign investment bill, amendment to SME business Act, electronic communication act, amendment to Sole Proprietorship Act, insolvency bill, amendment to income tax Act, amendment to tourism act, legal service bill, family bill, mental health bill, human trafficking bill, housing bill and amendment to environment protection Act.
