Tokyo, Japan — The Malaysian low-cost airline AirAsia has decided to cease all of their Japanese operations.
According to the AirAsia airline, they were notified by AirAsia Japan (AAJ) that the board of directors have taken the decision to cease their operations immediately due to “highly challenging operating conditions”.
“We respect and have agreed to the decision made by AAJ as this would reduce the cash burn of AAJ and the company amid the highly challenging operating conditions in Japan which have been aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic that has plagued the world since early this year,” the statement read.
The unexpected Covid-19 pandemic has affected several businesses negatively of which the airline industry includes in the worst effected. This is due to the halt in air travels following the protective measures taken to minimize the spread of Covid-19 in the world.
