Maldivian Airline given approval to fly to Sri Lanka

Male’, Maldives – The Government of Sri Lanka has approved for the national airline of Maldives, Maldivian to commence operations to Sri Lanka during the post Covid-19 phase.

Maldivian Airlines was among two airlines recently approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) to commence flights to the country. The other airline approved to join the existing fleets of international airlines operating to Sri Lanka is Ethiopian Airlines.

The two new airlines were approved from among six applications received by the CAASL.The approval of the two new airlines has increased the number of registered carriers in Sri Lanka to nearly 40.

The CAASL said the approval of several airlines such as GoAir, Sky Capital Airlines, Jetsar, Air Falcon and Jazeera Airways are still pending. While noting that only eight international airlines and 15 charter carriers were operating to Sri Lanka following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Authority said as of January 2020 there were a total of 35 registered airlines.
