Half a kilo of drugs confiscated and one arrested in Alif Dhaalu atoll

Fenfushi, Adh. Atoll – Maldives Police Service has confiscated 536.2 grams of drugs and arrested a 39 year old male from ADh. Fenfushi island. 

During the operation carried out on the 8th of this month, his house was searched after the Police Intelligence and Fenfushi Police Station received information of the drugs. The police revealed that his house was searched by Alif Daalu Police Station with a court warrant where drugs weighing a total of 536.2 grams were confiscated. The drugs found are said to be Methamphetamine also known as “crystal meth”, which is a powerful and a highly addictive stimulant.

The police suspect that the arrested 39-year-old is someone who plays a major role in the drug trade in Alif Daalu atoll. Mahibadhoo Magistrate Court granted 15 days to the police to put him in remand while they investigate the case further. Both Fenfushi and Mahibadhoo Police stations are involved in the investigation this case.

The Maldives Police Service has been carrying out numerous drug operations around the country recently and have busted a major drug ring from Addu City and confiscated 98.6 Kgs of drugs and arrested 14 individuals in the operation. Police have told that they want to topple the drug supply to the country and that they would continue this war on drugs in Maldives.
