Male’, Maldives – Since the reopening of guesthouses on the 15th of October, a total of 102 tourists have visited Maafushi island, one of the leading guesthouse islands in the country.
The figures were revealed by the Council President of Maafushi, Usmaan Rasheed, who detailed that 102 tourists visited the island within just six days of the island getting back in business, after the entire country, including the island had to close off all tourist businesses due to Covid-19, on 15th March.He also said that the island is getting back its true happiness now that it’s back on track.
According to the records of the Ministry of Tourism, 9 islands from 4 different atolls with 29 guesthouses were permitted to re-start the businesses, up to the 18th of this month.
The nine islands are:
- Noonu, Fodhdhoo
- Kaafu, Huraa
- Kaafu, Maafushi
- Kaafu, Guraidhoo
- Alif Alif, Mathiveri
- Alif Alif, Ukulhas
- Alif Alif, Thoddoo
- Vaavu, Thinadhoo
- Vaavu, Fulidhoo
Maafushi is currently home to the biggest guesthouse in the Maldives, which has a total 253 rooms, an event hall with the capacity of 130 people, an infinity pool, spa and other recreational activities, all within the 12 story building. With this, the bed capacity owned by Kaani company has gone up to 455, and that of Maafushi island to 1,627.
