MP Azim calls out to take action on MNDF personnel

Male’, Maldives – Parliament member for Henveiru central constituency and Maldivian Democratic Party’s parliamentary group leader, Ali Azim has called out to investigate individual military personal over an incident which happened in October 26, 2013 at the parliament.

He said this on Twitter after quoting three tweets from 2013. MP Azim was removed from the parliament premises by MNDP personnel over accusation of assaulting the then president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and was later handed over to the Maldives Police Service under the accusation of assaulting an MNDF soldier.

MP Azim had retweeted a tweet by the Speaker of Parliament, Former President Mohamed Nasheed on October 26, 2013 which states that all MNDF soldiers who went in to the parliament premises would be prosecuted individually, where MP Azim asked the parliament speaker to go ahead with the legal actions.

MP Azim also retweeted a tweet by the Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who condemned the assault on president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom by MP Azim at the parliament. MP Azim stated that he did not assault the president and that called out to take action on the people who had restricted him from doing his legally bound duty.

In the third tweet he posted quoting the tweet by MNDF on October 26, 2013, Azim called out to MNDF to identify the MNDF officer whom he had assaulted on that day and stated that the current Minister of Defence, Maria Didi was the person who was nearest to MP Azim.

Following the MP’s tweets, people had criticized him and the current government stating that the matter would not be investigated and MP Azim is just day dreaming. People had also called out to make the government more accountable and to investigate the more serious matters such as murders and corruption cases.
