Covid-19: Kandima reports additional 27 confirmed cases

Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives — A luxurious resort in Maldives, Kandima Maldives reports additional 27 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) revealed today that Kandima Maldives has confirmed additional 27 Covid-19 cases. Along with these 27 cases, the total confirmed cases from the resort are at 46, till date.

While the resort has collected a total of 176 samples, 46 have been confirmed to be positive and 126 negative for Covid-19. The remaining 04 samples came back inconclusive. inconclusive.

The Kandima cluster came to light on Friday night, after a 60 year old local male who fell ill was taken to Dhaalu Atoll Hospital from the resort, where the individual eventually passed away and was later on tested for Covid-19 as he was deemed symptomatic. The results of his samples came back positive, marking the 38th Covid-19 death in the country.

Due to this confirmed Covid-19 case, Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) collected 20 samples from Kandima, out of which 17 turned out to be positive for the virus. With this, HEOC announced that Kandima has been placed under monitoring as of Saturday evening.

Following this, all unauthorized access to the island and departure from the island has been made prohibited. This includes any tourists residing at the resort during this time as well. Tourists who are to depart the country after completing their vacation, must also be declared as a non-contact of any positive individual on the island, and must received a negative PCR result prior to departure.

Till date, Maldives has confirmed a total of 11,737 Covid-19 cases of which only 776 cases are active. While 10,916 people have completely recovered from the virus, 38 people have passed away from the virus in Maldives. The recovery rate of Maldives is currently at 92%.
