Maldives records the 40th Covid-related death

Malé, Maldives —  HPA has confirmed the death of the 40th person to pass away in Maldives due to the Covid-19 virus.

Th Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) tweeted that the deceased was a 43-year-old Bangladeshi national. While the Hulhumalé Hospital declared the expatriate as deceased on arrival, HEOC had conducted PCR testing, as per the protocol. The testing revealed that the deceased was positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Until date, a total of 40 people have passed away due to the virus in Maldives. The deceased are 33 elderly Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.

While a total of 11,986 people have been confirmed for the virus in Maldives, 11,092 people have completely recovered from it up to date. Currently there are only 847 active Covid-19 cases in Maldives.

Since the lock-down was eased in Maldives, there was a surge in the number of confirmed cases. However, the number of confirmed cases recorded over the past months have decreased by a great extent.
