Male’, Maldives – A plan proposed to reduce the complaints of Male’ residents not receiving residential land plots fro the City has been presented to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

‘Goathi Movement’, advocating for the rights of Male’ citizens, stating that there are residents in Male’ who deserve residential lands, drafted and presented this plan to the President on Tuesday, during a meeting held at the President’s Office.

They further revealed that the meeting was very hopeful, as many areas concerning the movement were discussed, including giving lands to the citizens of Male’ from Gulheefalhu, instead of the current plan to move the Port to the island. The movement suggested relocating the port to Thilafushi instead.

Revealing that President Solih assured that the plan would be looked into and considered, the movement stated that this plan would provide a solution for the land issue faced in Male’ for at least the next 70 to 100 years.

Currently Male’ City is one of the most congested urban cities in the world, which, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, accounts for 40.8% of the total population of the Maldives. Over the years , as a result of the lack of land and high demand, living costs have increased significantly, in the city, with many unable to afford shelter, ending up living in dire conditions.
