International Table Tennis competition to be held in Maldives

Male’, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that efforts are ongoing to hold an international table tennis competition in Maldives.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new Table Tennis Hall and National Martial Arts Centre at Hulhumalé Mini Sports Complex, President Solih reminisced the achievements Maldives earned in the badminton and table tennis categories during the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games.

As the country earned it’s first ever gold medal in a team event of women’s table tennis in 2019, it was a proud moment for the whole country, which was celebrated by the entire nation. President Solih said that the new table tennis hall and National Martial Arts Centre that was opened today is a golden opportunity for the youngsters who are interested in those fields.

He further said that this is an opportunity the country is getting to attract more recognition internationally. This is why, he also said that the government is working on keeping an International table tennis competition in the country as well.

Although President Solih did not mention when the government is planning to conduct the competition, he did say that they are hoping to keep it during the upcoming year.
