Male’, Maldives – Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom has said that tomorrow, Maldives would be welcoming the 100,000th tourist to arrive after borders reopened.
This milestone was set earlier by the Ministry of Tourism, and was met with widespread ridicule, with critics brushing the estimate off as a politically motivated and uneducated guess.
In a follow up tweet, Minister Mausoom said that it is a nice coincidence that the post border-reopening 100,000th tourist is arriving on the Tourism Ministry’s Anniversary Day, 12th December, and wished a Happy Anniversay to the team at the Ministry.
Latest statistics by the Ministry of Tourism reveal that, more than 18,000 tourists have arrived in December, and as at the 9th of this month, 94,543 tourists have visited Maldives since borders reopened on the 15th of July
These include of 1,752 tourists who arrived in July, the 7,628 tourists who arrived in August, along with the 9,538 arrivals in September, the 21,515 arrivals in October and the 35,759 tourist arrivals recorded on November.
Russia remains the top tourism market for the Maldives, with more than 20,000 tourist arrivals form the country since July. Following behind is India, with almost 14,000 tourist arrivals, followed by the U.K, U.S.A. and UAE amont others. While numbers increase the tourists arrival rankings by country remain mostly unchanged.
