Fonadhoo road surfacing to begin this month

L. Atoll, Maldives –  Under the Laamu atoll Fonadhoo road construction project, roads in the island will begin to be paved sometime this month.

Member of Parliament for Fonadhoo Constituency Moosa Siraj has said that preparations are done to begin paving roads of Fonadhoo, and depending on weather conditions, the first phase of paving work will start before the 24th of December and will end in February of next year.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) is tasked with tarring an area stretching up to 27,848 square meters, with 12 roads spanning 3.5 km to be developed under the project.

This project will see that storm water management system is established to solve flooding issues , installing speed breakers as well as planting street signs along the roads measuring 13,702 meters.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC for a total of MVR 25.5 million, with the compoany starting work on June 26, 2019.

MTCC currently has multiple large scale projects ongoing at multiple islands, and have been awarded last November with 10 projects worth over MVR1.1 Billion for land reclamation in 6 atolls, harbor development in 3 atolls and an airport development project.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih praised the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) las Saturday for its vital role in implementing the Government’s policies to ensure basic services nationwide.

The president made the statement during his remarks on “Kaamiyaabu 40”, a special TV programme celebrating the 40th anniversary of MTCC. While at the event, the President also inaugurated a special book commemorating the 40th anniversary of MTCC.
