US Ambassador to Maldives visits Male’ for important meetings

Male’, Maldives — The Ambassador of United States to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Alaina B. Teplitz has visisted Maldives after a long time to attend several important meetings in the country.

Ambassador Teplitz tweeted to inform that she has arrived to the capital Male’ city on a trip to attend some important meetings this week. She informed that these meetings will help emphasize the commitment US helps to make Maldives an independent and prosperous country.

So far during her trip to Maldives, Ambassador Teplitz has met with the Economic Development Minister of Maldives, Fayyaz Ismail to discuss about the increase in the trade relationship between Maldives and US.

Ambassador Teplitz noted that the trade between Maldives and US has increased by nearly 30% between 2013 and 2018 and that it is a delightful matter. Along with this, Ambassador Teplitz and Minister Fayyaz also discussed about possible ways to increase sustainable investment between the two countries.

Other than this, Ambassador Teplitz has also met the Chair of Independent Institutions Committee, Rozaina Adam and Jeehan Mahmood from the National Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and tweeted saying that they are powerful examples of the diverse perspectives & experiences women bring to the table.

Ambassador Teplitz further informed that during their brief meeting, they talked about combatting human trafficking in Maldives and about supporting women entrepreneurs in the country. Ambassador Teplitz said that the participation of women in politics is something that makes a difference in the country.
