US Ambassador Teplitz pays farewell visit to the Maldives

Malé, Maldives – The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives, Alaina Teplitz has paid her farewell call on the President, Speaker, the Minister of Defence and State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives.

At the meeting held at the President’s ‎Office, Ambassador Teplitz and President Solih discussed avenues of further cooperation between the two nations. The President thanked the Ambassador for America’s assistance in key common areas of interest such as human rights, good governance, democracy consolidation, socioeconomic development and counterterrorism.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Teplitz commended the vision set forth by President Solih for his administration. She further emphasised the prospects of mutual collaboration in matters of the environment, disaster management and counterterrorism.

The US Ambassador also paid her farewell to the Speaker of the Maldives Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. Ambassador Teplitz highlighted the invaluable work that the Speaker is doing with the Climate Vulnerable Forum ahead of the COP 26 Climate change conference.

Ambassador Teplitz met with Defence Minister Mariya Didi and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Mariya thanked the Ambassador for her role in taking the Maldives – US defence and security cooperations to the next level.

The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives also paid a farewell call on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel.

Discussions were held on the existing bilateral relations, and explored on expanding the cooperation between the two countries especially in the field of climate change, security, trade and investments and as well as cooperation at the multilateral fora.
