MIFCO to commence fish export along with MSS

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced that they are prepared to commence fish export in association with Maldives State Shipping (MSS).

Managing Director of MIFCO Ismail Fauzy told local news outlet Avas, that they would soon be importing 30 containers for cold storage of fish which os required for the export. He also said that the main purpose of this project is to sell and obtain high prices from fish until proper storage facilities are developed in Felivaru. He noted that they are making efforts to achieve this target together with Maldives State Shipping.

Containers would be received within this month. Then we can commence these operations at Felivaru. This is not the first time MIFCO is carrying out such an operation. However, in the past we used containers from Lily or TTS, now we are using the containers of the Government company, MSS. This is an improvement.

According to Fauzy, the fish are to be exported to expensive international markets with the help of MSS. He also noted that the containers to be used for fish export are of 40 feet and has a capacity of 25 tons of fish each.

Im addition to finding more mediums to increase the export of fish, MIFCO is also developing the ice production of Felivaru for which the necessary items have already been ordered. Numerous fishermen have recently expressed their concern over delays in weighing fish during the fishing season. Government is taking many steps inorder to try and resolve the concerns of fishermen so that the overall profits from fishing are increased.
