Male’, Maldives – Maldives National University (MNU) has announced a number of scholarships that are intended to further strengthen overall development across various sectors in Maldives.
During a special ceremony held at MNU, Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali launched the 48 new scholarships. Speaking at the gathering, Minister Aishath noted that in order to build a nation, it is essential to have high quality educators in primary education. She also said that without a strong educational foundation, locals students will find themselves unable to make the best use of opportunities that are expected to crop up in the future.
According to the announcement, these scholarships are intended to provide education in areas that do not usually attract as many students but are still necessary to further the nation’s success.
For 2021, the university has offered 30 slots for Bachelor of Primary Education, six slots for Certificate 3 Welding, six slots for Certificate 3 Air Conditioning and six slots for Nautical Studies. The Primary Education scholarships will be awarded to individuals selected among 60 islands, identified to be lacking in the availability of teachers.
In addition to this, MNU revealed that half of the scholarships will be awarded directly by the University. The remaining 15 will be allocated by the Education Ministry. According to MNU, the scholarships are fully funded, including the annual tuition fee of MVR 75,000.
