Discussions held regarding medical training in Maldives

Malé, Maldives— The Vice President of Maldives, Faisal Naeem holds a meeting with relevent authorities to discuss the means of enhancing the training and education of medical practitioners in Maldives.

The meeting was held at the President’s Office in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, Special Adviser on Social Policy of The President’s Office, Dr Mustafa Lutfi, Vice-Chancellor of MNU, Dr Mohamed Shareef, and Dean of MNU’s School of Medicine, Dr Sheeza Ali.

The members of Maldives National University (MNU) informed VP Faisal about the difficulties they face while conducting the education programs for their students in the Medicine School.

In addition to this, the spokesperson also informed VP Faisal about the plans they have made to enhance the training and education of medical practitioners in Maldives.

During the meeting, the importance of building Medical Facilities along with a hospital was discussed among the authorities and the importance of conducting various programs to educate and prepare specialized doctors were also highlighted. The MNU members further discussed the importance of facilitating internship opportunities for the medical students so they can obtain practical experience in the field during their course.

While in the meeting, VP Faisal noted how important it is to develop stable human resources that meet the future demand for medical practitioners while talking about the five tertiary level hospitals that are currently being developed in different areas of Maldives.

VP Faisal also advised the members to carry on with the plans they have made and to inform the relevent authorities about any obstacle that medical students of Maldives face.

Maldives National University appointed its first dean for the University’s School of Medicine on the October of 2018, and commenced education during April of 2019.
