Male, Maldives – Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the Maldives’ Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI) signed an agreement on a Land Reclamation and Harbor Development Project at Lh. Felivaru.
The project is worth MVR 113 million, and includes dredging and reclamation operations of 179,780.40cbm, construction of a 218.9m rock boulder breakwater, a 574.6m sheet pile, a 264.8m rock boulder revetment, and the installation of 2,466 sqm pavement. This project is part of a larger venture to increase the cold storage capacity in Felivaru.
MTCC CEO, Adam Azim, signed the contract on behalf of the company and Ms. Fathimath Shaana Farooq, Director General of Ministry of National Planning, signed on behalf of MNPHI. Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed also attended the ceremony.
The project is estimated to be completed within 365 days and is among numerous other such reclamation and development projects currently undertaken by MTCC.
This project, when completed will solve many issues currently faced by fishermen in the area, with the Fisheries Minister adding that more such projects will follow that would greatly benefit fishermen.
