7 new luxury resorts to open in the Maldives in 2021

Male’, Maldives — Maldives, will be opening seven new luxurious resorts this year that has already grabbed the attention of several industry partners including the Condé Nast Traveller. Often referred to as the paradises on Earth, Maldives is one of the world’s top luxury destinations.

Cocogiri Island Resort, Maldives is expected to open the earliest this year compared to the remaining six resorts. The resort is currently preparing to open their beautiful boutique island resort of just 20 overwater villas and 20 beach villas on 1st March 2021.

The new Cocogiri Island Resort will provide a range of experiences from  sunset dining to snorkelling and diving. The team is readily available on-hand to arrange excursions such as dolphin cruises, private island picnics and island hopping tours.

The new resort expected to open the second earliest in 2021 is Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands, Maldives. The management of Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands are currently preparing to open their ultra-luxurious Fari Islands on May of this year.

The second of three resorts opening in the four-island Fari Islands archipelago is Patina Maldives, Fari Islands, Maldives. It is expected to open in the second quarter of 2021 – an exact date is yet to be revealed.

The new Patina Maldives, Fari Islands in Maldives is self-described as catering to ‘progressive travelers of a new generation,’ where guests will be able to check-in to one of 90 well-appointed villas each with a private pool, or 20 beach suites.

Patina Maldives, Fari Islands a green focused resort based on the sustainability, with single-use plastic banned and eco-friendly amenities available across the resort.

Le Meridien Maldives Resort & Spa in Lhaviyani Atoll of Maldives is expected to open in September 2021. It is a 35 minute seaplane journey over sparkling atolls from the Velana International Airport in capital Male’ city.

The resort offers six culinary experiences – including an overwater restaurant — and no less than 50 dive sites for marine enthusiasts to explore. In addition to this, the resort also contains a central lifestyle hub, central pool and adults-only pool, spa and rustic beach bars.

Only a 25 minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport is The Chedi Kudavillingili, Maldives. It is 99-villa resort is split between 36 overwater villas 63 island based villas.

The Chedi Kudavillingili has a central pool stretching 150 metres, overwater spa with eight treatment rooms, a beach club and bar, an all-day dining restaurant and Hawkers Stalls featuring four live cooking stations.

Although the exact date for when the resort will be opened is not mentioned yet, the resort informed that they are preparing to open this year.

Other resorts that are expected to open in 2021 but haven’t revealed an exact date are:

  • Address Madivaru Maldives Resort Spa, Maldives: First Address Hotel’s property in a country other than UAE and Egypt. It will be having a dedicated spa island, water sports island, a myriad of restaurants and bars that will include a floating restaurant, plus beach and water villas for couples and families.
  • Avani Fares, Maldives: Located in Baa Atoll, the Avani hotel will be opening in late 2021. The resort will have  200 guest rooms range from standard rooms to luxury villas, while restaurants and bars include a designer deli, all-day dining restaurant and a speciality restaurant.
