Addu, Maldives – Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has announced the establishment of a dedicated Obstetric operation theatre in the hospital.

The hospital started the project on 1st January 2021 aiming to start operations on 1st February 2021. The project was completed ahead of time and the first caesarian section (C-section) was done on 18th January 2021.

AEH explained the importance of having a dedicated Obstetric OT stating that an emergency C-section is one that happens very quickly due to immediate concern for the health of the mother and/or baby. Adding that during normal delivery some unexpected incidences may be encountered such as Fetal or maternal distress.

The goal is that no more than 30 minutes pass between the decision to perform an emergency C-section and delivery. Time matters at this point for the safety of mother and baby. Having a dedicated obstetric OT that works 24/7 in Addu Equatorial hospital facilitates and ensure the safety and rapidity of delivery if needed.
