Male’, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed those feelings anxious and distressed to share their concerns by contacting the hotline, 1425.
HPA noted that it is normal for people to feel so, with the prolonged pandemic and also adviced those having such distress to talk to close ones and take care of your self. Dr.Arif Mohamed, a Consultant Phsychatrist also stressed the importance of mental health care during the pandemic in a video message regarding the issue.
The hotline is established by Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) as a social and psychiatric hotline for the entire country.
The organization requests the public to call the hotline 1425 for social and psychological support during emergency situations. The hotline service will be available from Saturday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
While the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives has gone into a community spread, many has raised their concerns on social media saying that the lifestyle changes due to the pandemic would have an impact on mental health. And the number of people who need assistance during this situation also keeps increasing.
