Covid-19: Additional 106 confirmed cases recorded even as vaccine gets approved

Malé, Maldives – The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed that Maldives has confirmed additional 106 Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours.

93 of the confirmed 106 cases were recorded from the greater Malé area, 04 from the islands and the remaining 08 cases from the operational resorts in Maldives with 01 recorded from Live aboard and none from the Islands under development.

With these 106 confirmed cases, Maldives now has a total 1,410 active cases, summing up the confirmed positive cases to date to a total of 15,496.

While the recovery case had initially increased rapidly from less than 60 percent to 94 percent, it has now gradually decreased to 91 percent over the past few weeks. This takes the total recovery cases to 14,028 cases to date.

To date, 51 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 44 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has approved Covishield vaccine to be used in Maldives on the 26th January 2021 under Restricted Use in Emergency Situations. Preparations are being made for the actual inoculation.
