Government seeks parties to develop four airports in the Maldives

Male’, Maldives – The government of Maldives has made an announcement on Thursday night, opening up the opportunity for interested parties, to develop four airports in the country.

According to the announcement published by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of the Maldives, interested candidates are urged to submit expressions of interest, to develop airports in Thulhaadhoo of Baa Atoll, Bilehfahi of Shaviyani Atoll, Vilufushi of Thaa Atoll and Makunudhoo of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The announcement further read that a more detailed Terms of Reference (TOR) would be made available on the Ministry’s website, www.finance.gov.mv, from the 31st January 2021 on wards, and that interested parties may obtain further information by writing to the email, aishath.nadheema@finance.gov.mv. The announcement also clearly highlighted that all proponents must verify with the website, all latest information regarding the call of the Request for Expression of Interest.

Further, the announcement stated that proponents would be shortlisted based on the expression of interest and that the deadline for the offer is 14:00 of 15th February, 2021, with further information made available on https://www.gazette.gov.mv/iulaan/view/143031

Currently there are several already ongoing airport development projects, including that of Madivaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, and in Gdh. Faresmathoda, of which the latter is being developed my Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) while the former is being developed by the private party.

Currently, the Maldives has three international airports with 14 domestic airports, scattered across the country.
