Male’, Maldives – It was decided at today’s virtual criminal court hearing that Opposition PPM/PNC coalition leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) is to present his defense at the next hearing of his case.

Starting today’s hearing, the Judge asked Abdul Raheem’s lawyers if they had received all documentation related to the case, to which they responded stating that they received the documents today, after entering the court, and as a result have not been able to go through the documents yet.

The judge then proceeded to allow the state to explain the charges against Abdul Raheem. A state representative said that the charge against Abdul Raheem is regarding profanity he allegedly used against 5 criminal court judges while speaking at a protest with a megaphone.

Abdul Raheem allegedly used vulgar language while speaking about the 5 judges who were attending Former President Yameen’s trial at the Criminal Court.

After the profanity charge was explained by the state, the defense was allowed to present their case. However, Abdul Raheem’s lawyers stated that since insufficient time was provided for document review, they would like to request to present their defense at a later date.

The judge agreed to this, stating that defense is to present their case at next hearing, adding that the next hearing would be scheduled at the earliest .
