Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the launch of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccine program and is the fourth person inoculated in the Maldives.
In the event held at the Social Center in the capital city Malé, Speaker Nasheed and other top-government officials are to get the vaccine.
The first person to be receive the vaccine in the country is Dr. Shiraany Abdul Rahman, a medical officer working at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
34 people are supposed to be vaccinated today including frontline workers and social care workers, individuals in the high-risk or the elderly category.
As a precautionary measure, individuals getting vaccinated must stay 15 minutes at the vaccination site according to HEOC, with the waiting time extended to 30 minutes for people with existing allergies. Medical persons are on alert to attend to any complications at the vaccination site.
Vaccine administration is being carried out in Hulhumale’ Hospital, Villimale’ Hospital, ADK Hospital and at Tree Top Hospital in the capital Male’ City. In addition, vaccination is also being carried out in Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) in the southern region and Kulhdhuffushi Regional Hospital in the Nothern region of the Maldives.
