31 detainees tests positive from Hulhumalé jail

Malé, Maldives — The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has revealed that 31 detainees from Hulhumalé jail have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

These 31 cases came after the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) informed that a 56-year-old prisoner in the Hulhumalé jail has tested positive for Covid-19 on February 1, 2021.

The prisoner was immediately transferred into a quarantine facility from the prison after which the HPA had put the Hulhumalé jail and took 112 samples of the staffs and detainees in the Hulhumalé jail.

HEOC informed that 31 of these samples has tested positive for Covid-19 and that they have isolated all the individuals who had confirmed positive for the virus. HEOC noted that contact tracing is currently ongoing in the jail.
