Addu City, Maldives – Additional ten Covid-19 cases has been confirmed from Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City.
On Thursday, the Hulhumeedhoo Health Center informed that that four expatriates have tested positive for Covid-19 from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) site located in the island.
The Mayor of Addu City, Abdullah Sodiq informed that 56 samples were taken from the MTCC site relating to this case and that so far they have received the results of 30 individuals.
Out of these 30 samples, Mayor Sodiq informed that 10 people have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus and that the results of the remaining samples will be available today evening.
Mayor Sodiq informed that Maldivians also include among the additional 10 Covid-19 cases that were confirmed today.
Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, collectively sometimes called Hulhumeedhoo, were placed under monitoring status on Thursday, after four individuals who were not in quarantine tested positive from the MTCC site. This comes one week after two positive cases were recorded from the same site, however, from quarantine.
According to the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), no contacts were established at the time, as per the information received by authorities. However, now that four new cases have been identified, contact tracing and sampling is on going in the districts to determine the scale of the spread.
While many cases have been recorded from various districts of Addu City since Maldives was affected by Covid-19, this is the first time that cases have been found from individuals who were not in quarantine at the time of testing positive.
