Yameen Rasheed’s murder case hearing scheduled for Sunday

Malé, Maldives – The hearing of the case regarding the murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed has been scheduled at the Criminal Court for 11:00 am on Sunday.

Charges have been raised against six induvuals in the case. Speech about providing proof and showing video footages from the state are to proceed at the court tomorrow. The Criminal Court said that although most hearings are being held recently, the hearing of this case is to be held physically at the court.

The six people upon whom charges of murdering a person using sharp weapons have been raised against are;

  • Ismail Haisham Rasheed, H.Annaarumaage
  • Ahmed Zihaan Ismail, M.Iraasmikuge
  • Mohamed Dhifraan, GDh.Gaddhoo, Sindhubaadhuge
  • Hassan Shifaz, M.Kudhehige
  • Ismail Rasheed, M.Thaaif
  • Hussain Ziyadh, M.Kolhufushee East

The court has also said that those giving their names would be allowed to be present for the hearing. However, arrangements would be made for the family of Yameen Rasheed to take part in the hearings without registering, added the Criminal Court.

Yameen Rasheed was murdered on April 23, 2017. He was found at the stairs of his residence with extreme injuries to the individual assumable with a sharp object. He was killed due to a religious conflict, according to Police and Death Comission. The most recent hearing of the case was held in September 2020.
