Addu City, Maldives – Mayor of Addu City, Abdullah Sodiq has revealed that the spread of Covid-19 is related to a team of trainers who arrived in Addu under a special travel permit issued by health authorities.

During an interview given to local media outlet ‘adduLIVE’, Mayor Sodiq revealed that the two positive cases identified from Hithadhoo today were contacts of a team who arrived from Male’ for an Aviation Security Command training.

Both individuals who tested positive attended a training at Gan, organized by Aviation Security Command. So it is believed that the contact was made through the training and resulted in a spread.

He further highlighted that while more staff of Gan International Airport partook in the training, contact tracing has been initiated for all participants. Due to this, transport within the city has been restricted to a need only basis.

We are trying to slow down movement as much as possible. We don’t know the extent of the spread yet. So our efforts are towards slowing down movement and speeding up our contact tracing.
