Maldives: One of the safest destinations in the world

Malé, Maldives – Maldives is one of the safest travel destinations in the world according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Maldives has successfully managed to maintain the Covid-19 tourist positivity rate below 0.09 perfect for the months of December 2020 and Jan 2021 consecutively.

This news comes in tandem with Maldives receiving over a 100,000 visitors in 2021.

Maldives reopened its borders to international travel on 15 July 2020 since the pandemic hit the country. The highest rate of infection among tourists was recorded in September 2020 with 0.36 percent of 9,538 visitors testing positive for the virus. The Covid-19 tourist positivity rate has gradually declined since, with 0.26 percent in October 2020 and 0.13 percent in November 2020.

The Tourism Ministry also highlighted the vaccination efforts for employees working in the tourism industry in an effort to curb the pandemic in the Maldives. At present, 10,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine “Covishield” has been allocated for tourism frontline workers in the country.

Tourism Minister of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom stated that although Maldives foresees to face more challenges in the future, 2021 will be a very successful year in Maldivian tourism.
