Addu City, Maldives – Addu Equitorial Hospital has decided to suspend OPD specialist consultations for the three days starting from today, 7 February 2021, due to the current Covid-19 situation in Addu City.
While OPD specialist consultations will not take place on February 7, 8 and 9, AEH said that emergency services at the hospital will still be provided during this period. The decision from the hospital comes after the island was placed under monitoring following to individuals testing positive for Covid-19, without being in quarantine prior to testing.
During an interview given to local media outlet ‘adduLIVE’, Mayor Sodiq revealed that the two positive cases identified from Hithadhoo today were contacts of a team who arrived from Male’ for an Aviation Security Command (ASC) training. The ASC has denied this allegation.
A total of 5 positive cases have now been identified from this cluster, the fifth one in GDh. Thinadhoo. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital stated that the individual who tested positive in Thinadhoo came into close contact with the two individuals who tested positive in Hithadhoo.
This cluster comes just a couple of days after a major cluster was discovered in Hulhumeedhoo of the same city, in a Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) site from which total 24 people have tested positive till now. This comes almost a year after Maldives recorded the first cases of Covid-19, making it a first for the city to have cases test positive from individuals who are not in quarantine.
Both Addu City and GDh. Thinadhoo are now placed under monitoring status.
