Malé, Maldives – With 4,373 tourist arrivals, The Ministry of Tourism has said that the 7th of February has set the record for the highest number of tourist arrivals in 2021.
Statistics by the Ministry of Tourism have revealed that more than 113,000 tourists have visited the Maldives in 2021 so far, with more 92,103 arrivals in January. The Previous daily arrival records was on the 31st of January, with 4,218 visitors.
The top source market for tourist arrivals in January was Russia, with 25,548 arrivals. India trails closely behind with 24,171 arrivals. Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Romania are also on the top tourism market lists released by the Tourism Ministry.
UK, US and China are nowhere to be found on the lists that they previously dominated by a large margin. This is due to various travel restrictions placed in China, and the reinstated travel bans in UK due to the discovery of a new variant of Covid-19.
Maldives currently has 144 resorts/marinas, 11 hotels, 324 guesthouses, and 134 liveaboard vessels in operation. The island destination is open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 96 hours before departure from their original destination. Tourists are issued 30-day visa upon arrival.
