Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has reactivated the online portal from which the public can request permits to go out on the roads of Malé during curfew hours.

Police revealed that the dedicated online portal police.gov.mv/permit has been arranged for those who need to go out during curfew hours or need to operate vehicles during those hours for necessary purposes. As such those who need to go to work and do airport transfers, as well as cafés and restaurants which do food deliveries would be permitted via the portal.

The current Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidelines mandate that all vehicle operations seize from 18:00 to 06:00 of everyday, with the exception of medical personnel, Police, MNDF and other personnel who are permitted to do so. A curfew has also been set from 23:00 to 04:00 of everyday, during which unauthorized movement on the roads would have action taken against.

The restrictions come at a time when the country faces a third wave of Covid-19, causing numbers to soar. Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq stated that this is the worst wave of Covid-19 the country has been hit with, and that the situation of the country is at a critical stage.
