Male’, Maldives — The Finance Ministry of Maldives has announced that they are planning to implement digital payment systems through Bandeyri Pay and mobile Point-of-Sale (mPOS) in government offices in Maldives.

A circular revealed by the Finance Ministry states that as a method to reduce the dependency on cheque and cash, the ministry is preparing to use digital payment methods in the state’s offices with the help of the new mobile Point-of-Sale (mPOS) payment solution introduced by the Bank of Maldives.

If any state office wishes to use this digital payment method in receiving payments, they are instructed to inform the Finance Ministry before 25th of this month.

The Finance Ministry noted from March 25th onwards, all the offices expect the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), state offices located abroad and Council Authorities, must record the digital transactions they have conducted via mPOS in the Public Accounting System.
