MP Qasim has not attended parliamentary meetings in one year

Male’, Maldives — The current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has stated that it has been a year since the representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll’s Maamigili constituency, Qasim Ibrahim attended a parliamentary meeting.

While speaking at the parliament meeting that was held today, Speaker Nasheed showed concern that he has noticed that a lot of members ask for leave from the meetings and remain at leaves for a long time.

Speaker Nasheed noted that especially, the Jumhooree Party leader and representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll’s Maamigili constituency, MP Qasim Ibrahim was completely on leave last year and that MP Qasim has not yet even attended a single parliament meeting of this year as well.

Along with MP Qasim, Speaker Nasheed also noted that the representative of Dhaalu Atoll’s Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Siyam (Sun Siyam) has also been taking leaves from the parliament meetings. However, Speaker Nasheed did not specify as to how many meetings MP Siyam did not attend.

While informing that MP Hussain Waheed is also on leave, Speaker Nasheed stated that MP Waheed is currently unwell and that he is getting treatment from the doctor.

Earlier, local media reported that the top absentees  among the parliament members in the year 2020 were four business tycoons among whom MP Siyam had the most absenteeism in the 105 parliamentary meetings held in the year 2020. Following MP Siyam was MP Qasim who 14 parliamentary meetings.
