Male’, Maldives — Four business tycoons turned out as the top absentees among the parliament members in the year 2020.

The information collected by a local media outlet reveals that the representative of Dhaalu Atoll’s Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Siyam (Sun Siyam) was the most absent member in the 105 parliamentary meetings held in the year 2020.

The statement shows that Siyam attended only 08 of these parliamentary meetings last year. The total assets of Shiyam, including his land plots, vehicles, deposits at bank accounts and shares is valued at MVR 25 million.

The second most absent attendee in the parliament 2020 was the Jumhooree Party leader and representative of Alif Dhaalu Atoll’s Maamigili constituency, Qasim Ibrahim. He only attended 14 parliamentary meetings according to the statement. He owns assets worth of over MVR 1 billion.

Coming after Qasim is the member of constituency of Hoarafushi, Ahmed Saleem, who attended only 38 parliamentary meetings out of the total 105 meetings. The MP of Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdullah Jabir also attended only 38 meetings during the past year.

These four business tycoons are the top most absent attendees of the calculations done by the local media outlet which involved of the three quarters of Parliament.
