Drifting Srilankan linked to dead body found in V. Atoll: Police

Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service said that the Srilankan drifting away on a dinghy rescued yesterday by MNDF, has a connection with the dead body found in V. Fohtheyo Bodufushi yesterday.

Police said that from their investigations to date, they have been able to identify that both the cases, the dead body found in V. Fohtheyo Bodufushi and the Srilankan man drifting away on a dingy outside V. Anbaraa are interrelated. They added that further investigations are now ongoing.

Police said that the body was found on the island of V. Fohtheyo Bodufushi yesterday morning. Reports of the body were received by the police from a group of people who visited the island to collect wood around 11:02. The body was then transported to the capital Male’ City by the authorities.

A man in distress was discovered on a dinghy drifting in Maldivian waters and was reported to the authorities at around 17:12. MNDF’s Male’ Area squadron was dispatched to the location. Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said that the man was found by a safari boat in the area named “Maldiviana”.

The individual was identified as a Sri Lankan and was discovered on a dinghy drifting near at Vaavu atoll. The man’s nationality was confirmed from documents he had with him on the dinghy.
