Malé, Maldives – The High Court of Maldives has overturned the ruling of the Criminal Court of Maldives to not pursue charges regarding an individual who attempted to travel to Syria with the intention of participating in the war taking place in the country.

The High Court, ordering the Criminal Court to continue pursuing the charges against the individual who has been identified as Hassan Faizan, stated that the evidence presented by the state is sufficient and that it can be continued.

Faizan, who has denied all accusation against him, was arrested in Turkey on 6th November 2017 and was handed over to the Maldives which resulted in his prosecution in the Criminal Court, which dismissed the case citing insufficient evidence.
