Malé, Maldives – Opposition leader Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) has been arrested today, in front of the office of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Spokesperson of the opposition coalition, Heena Waleed stated that his arrest was right out side the PPM office, while Adhurey was on his way home.
While Adhurey, who is currently the leader of the opposition PPM-PNC coalition got arrested today, the coalition led demonstrations were held today as well, with a major protest being planned for this upcoming Friday, despite the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s recommendation against it, given the current condition of the country, due to the pandemic.
Maldives Police Service has also warned that any such activity would result in legal action being taken against them, given that the directive of HPA which does not allow more than 10 people to be out in groups.
