Dr Farah appointed as Maldivian representative to IMO

Malé, Maldives – Parliament of Maldives has voted to appoint High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom, Dr Farah Faizal as the permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih forwarded Dr Farah’s name to the parliament on February 17, 2021 and she was given approval by the parliament today with 54 votes.

Dr Farah Faizal served as the High Commissioner of Maldives to the UK as well as non-resident Ambassador to Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Spain and Sweden from 2009 – 2012.

She became the first Maldivian female to get a PhD after completing a PhD in Politics from the University of Hull, UK. Her thesis was on the “Security Problems of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) with particular reference to the SIDS of the Indian Ocean”.
