Re-registration for Local Council Elections now open

Malé, Maldives – Elections Commission has announced that re-registration for the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections are now open for those want to change their previously registered voting locations.

Elections Commission stated that the opportunity is only for voters who wish to vote from a different location or island other than the one they registered to vote in the Local Council Elections which was originally scheduled for April 4, 2020, but was later postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Those who were registered to vote in resorts, prisons and Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur as well as UK’s London are registered to vote in the elections on April 10 at voting locations closest to their permanent addresses, and need to re-register if they wish to vote in a different location.

Registered locations of the voters can be checked through Elections Commission’s website or via SMS to 1414 with the keyword “VR” and the national ID number.

Re-registration forms are also available for download from the Elections Commission website. Voters need to present an unexpired official photo ID when submitting re-registration forms. Expired national ID cards are also acceptable.

Re-registration forms will be issued and accepted from the Elections Center from the old Jamaluddin School building in Male’ City, and from local councils in other Atolls. The opportunity is open till March 11.
