Covid-19: 4 additional cases recorded from HA. Baarah

HA.Baarah, Maldives – Four additional cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in HA. Baarah.

According to information received, the four people who tested positive for Covid-19 from the island were not in quarantine prior to testing. The four individuals came in contact with 9 existing positive cases from the island after testing upon completion of the 10 day mandatory quarantine.

The contact tracing of the newly found cases are now underway. The island has been placed under monitoring status following the positive cases to further investigate.

Maldives recorded 165 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday alone. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 20,144 out of which 17,470 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of March 2, 2021.

While the country is currently riding one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 186 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.

Since the country recorded its first case of Covid-19, Maldives has reported 62 deaths in connection to Covid-19. The deceased are 55 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
