MVR 1.5 billion pledged for housing within atolls for 2022

Malé, Maldives – Minister of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that a total of MVR 1.5 billion has been pledged for housing projects within atolls for the year 2022.

Detailing this announcement during the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Rahvehi Fathis campaign program for Raa Atoll, Minister Aslam stated that the sum would be reflected towards establishing housing units and that this would include either row houses or flats.

We are working on determining the islands which require row houses and flats and the amount of each island requires, along with the preparation of tender documents and drawings.

He added that the government will be prepared to tender the work of the project by the beginning of the upcoming years and that all contractors awarded the project are going to be local.

Further, the Minister stated that housing loans will also be opened for applications via the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) within next month.

Those living within the atolls will be able to apply for housing loans in order to build their homes, or expand their existing housing status. This will be opened up during the second quarter of this year

This comes after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih previously stated that the government would put in a special focus towards ensuring housing, during the year 2022.
