Malé, Maldives – Former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ahmed Siddiq has said the planned bridge in Addu City will destroy relationships between communities in the city.

Siddiq who served as deputy home minister during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration has said on a local talk show that while the current government is all talk and that he believes that they might go ahead with the bridge planned in Addu.

Siddiq alleged that this was to keep the Police Academy currently being built in the city with Indian aid, under ‘Indian power’. He did not elaborate on this claim, or provide any evidence.

“The current link road connects each ward, but they are planning to separate each ward, this will result in relationships between towns to disappear”
