Malé, Maldives – MP for South Henveiru Constituency ‘Rukuma’ Mohamed Abdul Kareem has stated today that the right to residency should not be snatched, even at a Minister’s behest.

MP Rukuma said this today after Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam stated that the Malé residential registry should have been abolished long ago and that this registry has resulted in many problems.

The MP later tweeted that the Malé residential registry has been respected by all former governments, and that even if a Minster wants to, it cannot be suddenly dissolved.

Answering a question on the Malé residential registry by MP for Velidhoo Constituency Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq, Minister Aslam stated that he does not believe the registries should exist, adding that the registry- used by islanders permanently living in Malé to register, should be dissolved.
