Addu City, Maldives – Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate for Addu City mayor, Ali Nizar has said that if 2,000 flats are built in Addu City that it will lower the burden on the housing issues in Addu City.
The former MP of Hithadhoo south constituency and current mayoral candidate Nizar said this last night while speaking on the ‘Ahafele’ program conducted by local media outlet ‘adduLIVE’.
Nizar also said there is a plan for a project to build 2,000 housing units in Addu City and that providing living spaces for the people is a responsibility of the government as well as the council. He has further stated that the council can do it on their own through contractor financing and that the next council that gets elected will try their best to alleviate the housing problems.
In my opinion, if about 2,000 flats are constructed, it will ease the housing problems in Addu City.

Nizar also stated that the people need to change their mindsets about the fact that allocating lands alone will not provide a sustainable solution and that council needs to build and sell 2 roomed or 3 roomed apartments at a cheap rate. He also said that even now, there are many vacant lands and if the MDP council gets elected, they will provide a good solution to the land owners.
He also said that land owners who are living in Male’, London, or Australia will not have the chance to let their land lot be a burden to the people living in Addu City. Nizar also told that state lands could be taken by the government, yet it does not provide a definite solution to the whole problem.
