Moscow, Russia – Maldives wins two awards at the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT) held in Russia.
Maldives won the titles of “Best Island Presentation” and “Bright Exhibiting” awards at the MITT exhibition popular among world’s travel destinations, which was held from 16 to 18 March this year. Awards were presented for attractive, unique, innovative projects by teams representing destinations at the fair. The Maldives won awards for the spectacular presentation of the island destination and promotional enterprising of the team. This attracted a number of industry players and representatives to the Maldives stand.
Upon receiving the awards Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of Visit Maldives highlighted the importance of the Russian market to Maldives as it is one of the top performing source markets to the Maldives and said that the awards are an indication of trust by Russians in the Maldives as a tourist destination.
I am gratified by the awards… received by the Maldives at MITT, the first offline event in months. This is an extra encouragement to the efforts we, as an industry, are putting in the Russia and CIS markets.

The Maldives stand at the exhibition used vibrant visuals and 360-degree touchless videos to let visitors experience the natural beauty of the Maldives virtually. Visitors and stakeholders were also informed about the safe business environment afforded in the Maldives tourism industry.
MITT is the leading international travel & tourism trade show in Russia and the CIS. It’s the place where destinations and travel service providers meet tour operators and travel agents looking for new opportunities to offer their clients. For 26 years, the event has attracted the hottest destinations, key travel service providers, as well as top travel buyers and industry experts for three days of business and networking. This year’s MITT marks the first offline tourism exhibition in Russia after one year with 1,533 participants from 15 countries and 52 Russian regions exhibiting at the fair.
Russia has one of the highest tourist arrival numbers to the Maldives, 40,698 tourist arrivals were recorded from the Russian region till date this year. Four connecting flights operate between Russia and Maldives with direct connections via Aeroflot.
